SEO – Search Engine Optmisation
Search engine optimisation, or SEO for short, is the process of increasing your rank in the search engine results pages. SEO is a large subject which consists of market research, website optimisation and generally raising awareness of your website online.
I can provide a range of SEO orientated services, all of which are designed to give both the website user and Google a better idea of what your website is about, and a greater chance of matching your website to the users’ search query.
A couple of myths I’d like to clear up
If you’re looking for an SEO provider, these are classic sales tactics you will hear;
- I can guarantee #1 in “x” amount of weeks
- I can build you “x” amount of links for £x.xx
- I can make Google index your website faster
- I can build 100’s of links to your website
- I can get you 5,000 likes on Facebook
…all of which are complete rubbish! The fact is, good SEO takes time and effort. Sure, you can spend and spend on Google Adwords, but typically 90% of people ignore paid ads. In my opinion, a comprehensive SEO campaign will cover a few vital areas, which I’ll talk about throughout this page.
A lot of websites fall down in this area. The URLs aren’t structured properly, the navigation is poor, the page titles don’t make any sense. All of these things contribute to the quality of your website, and also to how Google perceives your content. The way I see it, you need to show Google what your content is about and the more detail you can give, the better.
Through analysing your website’s content I can draw up a proposal and make modifications to key elements such as;
- Your page titles
- Meta description length, relevance and keyword inclusion
- Check for warning signs such as keyword saturation and duplicate content
- Correctly structure heading tag, or add them if there aren’t any
- Optimise images
- Redirect pages and trace 404 errors
How much does the market know about you or your business? Probably not enough! Through social media services and reaching out to quality resources, I can help build awareness and links to your website. I do not use “link farms” to buy links on mass and do not use submission tools to get links from 100s of websites with absolutely no relevance to what you do. This can do more harm than good. One quality link to your website will outweigh a thousand weak ones.
Is there a downside to a fast website? No, not at all. The speed which your website loads is actually something that Google pays attention to and should not be overlooked. I can increase the speed of your website using a variety of methods;
- Loading resources such as images through a CDN
- Moving your website to a faster hosting provider
- Compressing and concatenating (joining) files to reduce load time
- Compressing images
- Installing a cache on your website (specifically a WordPress powered website)
- Removing unwanted script which is needlessly loaded (common with off the shelf website builds)
Your SEO extends far beyond the reach of your own website. What about your competitors? Why do they rank? I can help you identify potential keywords and sources for quality links, leaving your competitors behind!
Content creation and proof reading
Content is all important on your website. After all, this is the purpose of Google – to serve the most relevant information to the search query. To engage users you must have quality content which is unique to you. I can help you create content, writing for results but also for user interest. If you create your own content I also offer a proof reading service – believe it or not Google now takes grammar into account when determining your search position!
Due to the nature of SEO, some solutions are short term whilst others are certainly long term. To achieve results I ask clients to agree to a 3 month plan, which includes reports on progress. Through research, implementation and assessment it’s possible to create a good online campaign.
